FNA District 21: March 2009 Meeting Minutes
(More pictures to follow)
The FNA District 21 March 9 general membership meeting/meet and greet social was held at the Broward County Health Department. The purpose of the event was to encourage membership as well as to fellowship with our new and seasoned members. Invitations to the Meeting/Social were sent out to our FNA membership and local Universities. Approximately 25 participants accepted our invitation.
The meeting was attended by a diverse and highly energized group of Nurses. Attendees included long standing, seasoned members of District 21, those who have recently joined the ranks of FNA21 and a healthy contingent of nurses who plan on joining in the near future! The Board and some members also provided a plentiful amount of food and drink to keep everyone fueled up for the district business at hand.
After a brief welcome by newly elected District 21 president Margaret Davis the floor was opened to the general membership for suggestions and possible initiatives for FNA District 21. The Board members held a “unity” forum, in which attendees were welcomed and encouraged to give their input on what directions they would like to see their local organization’s involvement. There were many creative ideas brought to the table, i.e. initiating and implementing Community Service/outreach activities, increasing membership along with the benefits of being a member, scholarships, annual Nurse of the Year Awards and the need for continuing educational programs.
The general consensus was that increased Community Outreach by District 21 will, most importantly, benefit the community in which we work and live. The added bonus for FNA 21 is to underscore the important, vital role professional Nurses play in our communities' health care delivery. This concept also ties in to this year’s Nurses Week Theme:
NURSES: BUILDING A HEALTHY AMERICA
FNA21's involvement in the community is a not new initiative. In Spring of 2007 FNA District 21 entered into a collaborative program with the Broward Coalition to End Homeleeness. This Community Outreach was largely initiated, developed and instituted by FNA member Jean Ready with the support of District 21. Outgoing FNA21 President Christine Browne is credited with being a force out in the community who gets the job done, visiting homeless shelters on a weekly basis. Hats off to these dedicated selfless members of FNA21. May they serve as examples of what we can accomplish in the future.
Please, plan to get involved and to help make a difference in our Organization and Community. We have an awesome and dedicated Board of Directors who would love to have you join us for our meetings. See our meeting information on our website.
Thanks to all who attended for making this a great meeting!
